How much do I have to pay?
Unless you have sold a book on Dogears Etc.™ you pay nothing. That means you can register for free, list items for sale for free and request items for free. It also means you can participate in the discussion forums for free. Only after your book is sold, will 11% of the list price be held back as facilitation charges.

How will a typical transaction work?
A typical transaction will work thus.
- A user registers [with implied agreement to Terms & Conditions]. This user can further act as both buyer and seller.
- As a seller, the user adds book for sale. During this process, the user will specify the amount he/she expects for the book and must be very specific about the condition of the book.
- As a prospective buyer, the user will search for a book and choose a book he/she wants to purchase. A decision to purchase implies acknowledgment of book conditions and agreement with the price quoted by the seller.
- After agreeing to buy, the buyer pays the price of the book as well as the price of postage [depending on postage options selected by the user]. Payment could be made by one of the following options: a] cheque, b] demand draft, c] credit-card, d] debit card, e] cash-on-delivery and direct deposit into a bank account of Dogears Etc.™ either f] online or g] physically.
- Upon receipt of money, Dogears Etc.™ acknowledges the buyer of receipt of payments and instructs the seller to dispatch the item as per the buyer's instructions.
- In case of non-conformance of item, buyer should inform Dogears Etc.™ at the time of receipt of the item. Refer to the Terms & Conditions for details.
- If no intimation is received from the buyer, Dogears Etc.™ pays amount to seller after withholding 11% of the cost price of the book, as facilitating charges.

How do I register myself on this website?
Registration on this website is a simple process.
To begin, click on the link marked 'Register' in the upper right corner of the page.
After the screen appears, fill in the information as required. Please make certain you submit an email id you often access as important information will be conveyed to you through an email.
After you enter all information, click on the 'Submit' button.
If the registration process is successful, you should see a screen similar to the one below.

How do I request for an item?
To begin, click on the link marked 'Request For Items' on the navigational pane on your left.
Once the screen is accessed, fill in the information as required. Tooltips on the right will help you fill in information. Please fill in as much as information as you can about the item. Do not forget to fill in the maximum price you are willing to pay for the item.
After you fill in the information, press the 'Request Item' button to register your request. Upon successful registration, you should see the screen below.
To view if your request is indeed registered successfully, click on the link marked 'View Other Requests' on the navigational pane on your left.
After choosing the appropriate requests to view, you should be able to see the one you just entered.

How have you ensured integrity of transactions?
We have ensured the integrity of transactions on the website so that both buyers and sellers can have a memorable experience shopping for used books and audio-visuals. Firstly, only after payment is received, is the seller directed to dispatch the book. This ensures that the item has been paid for. Similarly, we recommend that the buyer opt for a postage option that has a 'Registered A/D' facility. This allows the buyer to insist on documentation of dispatch of the book.

What are the shipping options available?
The following postal options are available to buyers on Dogears Etc.:
Book Post::
A maximum of 5kgs (5000 gms) is allowed by this method. The flap of the envelope containing the book needs to be open to facilitate inspection. However, the envelope may be tied by a string to avoid spillage. This method costs Rs. 4/- for the first 50 gms and Rs 3/- for every additional 50 gms or part thereof.
Book Packet containing Printed Books::
A maximum of 5kgs (5000 gms) is allowed by this method.The flap of the envelope containing the book needs to be open to facilitate inspection. However, the envelope may be tied by a string to avoid spillage. This method costs Rs. 1/- for the first 100 gms and Rs 1/- for every additional 100 gms or part thereof.
Parcel Service::
Items sent by this method can be sealed. The item must be presented at the counter and must be registered if the weight is more than 4 kgs (4000 gms). This method costs Rs. 19/- for the first 500 gms and Rs 16/- for every additional 500 gms or part thereof.
We strongly recommend that the buyer opt for options with a 'Registered A/D' facility so that the transaction is documented.

Is Dogears Etc.™ here to stay?
Most definitely. In fact, we have a host of initiatives planned and you'll see these introduced soon after we have sufficient information to post. In the near future, amateur artists will be able to list their art up for sale. Meanwhile, students are encouraged to send us abstracts of their theses and projects so that they can be displayed on the website and obtain the necessary exposure they might need. This will provide an opportunity for companies to view projects that interest them and contact the students associated with these projects. We also have something planned for amateur authors. But for more details on that, you will have to wait and watch the website. It will be worth the wait!!

How do I go about purchasing a book?
We have tried to simplify the buying process as much as possible.
- To start with, search for the book you wish.
- Choose to view details of any item you like from among the search results.
- After viewing the details, click on the "Add To Cart" button if you wish to purchase the item.
- You will see a screen confirming that the item has been added to the shopping cart. To view your cart, click on the "View Cart" menu item on the top bar.
- The screen that follows lists all the items in your cart. Should you wish to purchase one, choose 'Proceed To Buy' from among the options. Then click on the 'Check Out' button located towards the bottom of the screen.
- The next screen allows you to choose an alternate address if you wish that the item be shipped to a friend or acquaintance. Also, you are requested to choose whether you wish to make your payment using credit/debit card or other (offline) methods. You may also choose to insure your purchases while you are here.
- If you choose to "buy using other modes" you will see a confirmation screen like the one below. A detailed email will also be sent to you
- If, instead, you choose to pay using a credit/debit card...
...you will be first requested to fill in information pertaining to your credit card/ net banking options
...after which you will receive confirmation of the payment. Please note that this process takes a little longer.

In case of books, therefore, pay attention to the title, the author, the publisher and the year of publication. Once you have paid for a book or audio-visual, we hold the money and direct the seller to dispatch the book. We strongly recommend that you choose a postal option that has a 'Registered A/D' facility as this will ensure that postage is documented.

How long before I get a book I have ordered?
This depends on a large number of parameters. Firstly, you will be notified on how long it is before the seller can send you her/his book. This is important especially in case of students who are able to sell their textbooks only after they have finished their exams. Secondly, the item is dispatched only after payment is realized. After the book has been dispatched, depending on the type of postage you have chosen, the book should be at your doorstep in 10-15 days. In case of books sourced from abroad, delivery may take between 20-45 days.

How do I convey my displeasure with my purchase? [What is your policy on returns and refunds?]
While running the risk of repeating ourselves, we request that you, as a buyer, should take due note of the details of that item. In case of books, therefore, pay attention to the title, the author, the publisher and the year of publication. Also, you should pay attention to the condition of the item as described by the user. This will inform you, for example, if the book you have ordered has been highlighted or if the dust jacket of that book is slightly torn. However, if you feel that the item you have received is nothing like what had been communicated, you can email us at contact@dogearsetc.com and we will take up your issue on a priority basis. Please refer to the Terms & Conditions for details about such grievances.
However, in all other cases such as those wherein you changed your mind and want to return the book or if it is a book you have already read, we express an inability to refund your money.

I chose an offline payment method and have sent my payment. How do I confirm if you have received it?
Normally we send you an e-mail after we receive your Cheque/DD. Please let us know details about your courier along with a copy of proof of delivery if you have not received the e-mail. It takes 7 days for us to process your order after we receive the Cheque.
In the case of online debit card payment option, the order is approved after receiving the confirmation from the bank. If you have not yet received the approval mail, then kindly contact your bank for further details.

How do I rate my previous transactions?
Users are encouraged to leave feedback on their previous transactions. This allows a fair rating of the sellers that can be checked by buyers before they purchase.
To begin, click on the link marked 'Your Profile' in the upper right corner of the page. You have to be logged in to view this link
You will see a page that has your information details. To the right is a box like that displayed below. Click on the 'View Your Purchase Records' link.
The screen that follows shows various transactions that have not yet been rated. Rate each seller and leave feedback for each transaction under the 'Record Of Purchases' heading.
You can also leave feedback here if you have sold items and wish to rate the buyer. These transactions will be under the 'Record Of Sales' heading.
Click on the 'Review Past Transactions' button after you have finished.

I am an independant bookseller. Can I sell on this website?
Yes, you may sell your books if you so wish. However, you are responsible for any contracts you have entered into with your distributors and publishers if they violate such trade. You will, for all intents and purposes, be another individual selling her/his books. Meanwhile, should you find it too cumbersome to enlist all your books on our website, send the list over and we will gladly list your books for you.
Meanwhile, if you have customers seeking books you cannot find, we will be glad to source them for you.

What kind of books am I allowed to sell?
You are allowed to sell all books and audio-visuals that can be sold in the sub-continent. We strongly discourage the habit of engaging in the trade of pirated books and audio-visuals because we, as a company, are opposed to such practices due to its detrimental effect on the artists. We also request you to be sensitive to peoples' feelings and beliefs and therefore refrain from engaging in the trade of material that insults religious beliefs, pornography and other such material.Refer the Terms & Conditions for a list of items prohibited for sale. How should I price my books?
In the case of used books, pricing your book is an art that we could hardly advice upon. In the case of contemporary books, those that are still available in print, we suggest that you price your books depending on a] the condition of the book, b]the demand for that book and c]the availability of that book in the market. In case of books that are out of print you could set its price depending on the demand for that book. The condition of the book will also impact its price in this case.
In the case of brand new books, the price is entirely your decision. We do not insist upon discounts - the decision to offer discounts is yours.

How am I assured of payments?
As a seller, you are directed to dispatch the item only after it has been paid for. That means you are assured of your payment once we get confirmation of delivery of the item. In order to get an independant confirmation of the delivery [so that the buyer cannot deny receipt of the item] we recommend that you send the book by making use of the Registered A/D facility. What is the Partner Program all about?
The Partner Program is an initiative by which registered users of Dogears Etc.&153; can partner with other individuals that do not have access to the Internet, yet wish to trade on this website. A member of the partner program would hence:
- Trade on Dogears Etc.™ on behalf of those who wish to trade books and audio-visuals on this website but do not have access to the Internet
- Register oneself and trade like a normal user, except that that the items traded will belong to various other individuals
- Be responsible for any or all agreements entered with those on whose behalf their items are being traded. Consequently, neither can any member of the Partner Program nor those they act on behalf of can hold Dogears Etc.™ liable for any loss or damage of items or non-payment of dues
- Receive 3% of the selling price of that item, in case items listed by them are sold. Members of the Partner Program are responsible for ensuring that the owner of the item receives his/her due amount for each item sold
- Will be required to agree to and be bound by all other conditions mentioned in the Terms and Conditions and agreed to during registration
