This book follows the life of Latha, an Indian woman settled in the United Kingdom. She is a strong and independent individual; she faces life’s ups and downs with determination and hard work. As she reflects on the trials and tribulations that she and her mother have gone through in life, she realises that they did not have the support of their loved ones. Respect was always demanded from them, but never reciprocated. Latha feels that this was because there were mostly male members in her family whose loyalties were misplaced. Had there been aunts and sisters, with their love and support, she could have taken every challenge in her stride and sailed through life. Instead she feels burdened and grapples with intense loneliness. Love, respect and support from loved ones is as essential as food and water in life’s long journey.
